I was inspired by the lovely Pip Lincolne and her blog ‘Meet Me at Mikes‘ to do a photo a day for the month of May on our instagram account!

Junction Park School Fete – Sunday 29th April

We are proud to be sponsors of the Junction Park State School’s Annual fete this year and are looking forward to spending some time there this Sunday. The shop will also be open with Kath, Ben and Ry manning the till from 9am until lunchtime.

They have been preparing for months and are expecting a crowd of thousands after the unbridled success of last year’s fete.

There has been some fun things happening in the school already with yarn-bombing occuring accross the grounds and along the boundary in the fete’s theme of Heart and Harmony. Come along and see all the artistic and crafty endeavours that the kids and parents have been up to :)

Check out the fete website for information on times and location for the day. See you there!

Product Spotlight – Mini Mayhem

We had a lovely chat this week with Tanya from kid’s t-shirt brand, Mini Mayhem!

What do you make? We make awesome t-shirts for little guys featuring some of their favourite things – diggers, dinos, fire trucks and spacemen. Our shirts are all lovingly printed by hand using eco-friendly inks and 100% cotton shirts right here in Brisbane.

What was the inspiration for you to start your brand? I studied fine art when I finished high school but somehow ended up a criminal lawyer. Taking a break from work to stay home with our little guys has allowed me to get back in touch with my creative side. Our shirts are mainly inspired by what my 3 year old son is obsessing about at the time – he is my biggest fan as well as my toughest critic.

How did you decide on your name? Mini Mayhem is a reference to the lovely craziness caused by our little toddler. But we have added another small person to the family since then so perhaps we need to rename it Major Mayhem?

What’s your favourite thing to make and why? Probably our New Farm boys and West End girls shirt as I almost always end up singing the Pet Shop Boys song as I’m printing. I also know that those shirts are destined to get some great responses when they are worn as we always get people commenting when our kids wear that particular shirt.

Where else do you sell your products?

The Collective Store
Cultiver
Mathilda’s Market
Ruffled Bazaar Markets
Mummy Tree MarketsDo you do custom work? I’m more than happy to try and accommodate any specific requests. We’ve made a few shirts for adults including a digger shirt for the owner of an excavator company!

Product Spotlight – Hermia’s Wishes

We got the lowdown from Kim who is the creative mastermind behind the beautiful papergoods label, Hermia’s Wishes.

What do you make? – Fun, unique and a little bit quirky prints, cards and printables!

What was the inspiration for you to start your brand? The brand started out as a creative outlet for myself after my hubby an I pulled off our dream wedding all by DIY!  I loved it also much it blossomed into a business and we’ve recently branched out into prints and cards! LOVE IT!

How did you decide on your name? I love Shakespeare and in a midsummers night dream The character Hermia wants to run away and get married to the man she loves but her father refuses and wants her to marry this other man.  A whole bunch of fun stuff happens and in the end Hermia does indeed marry the man she loves, so I think that if she had a wish it would be that everyone gets to marry the one they love :-) and Hermia’s Wishes was made!

What’s your favourite thing to make and why? Hahaha, everything!!!  My motto is love what you do, do what you love so I love making the cards, cutting out, folding and sticking the envelopes!  It’s fun to imagine who will use them, where the prints might end up!

Where else do you sell your products? My range of prints and cards is available at Handmade Highstreet and our printables are available online at etsy!  We might pop up at markets every now and again too!

Do you do custom work? Yep, I LOVE custom work!  I love designing something especially for someone!  Makes it all the more special!

I’m growing older… but getting wiser

So today it finally happened… I found a grey hair. Now I’m not saying it’s my ‘first grey hair’ as that could have happened ages ago but I regularly dye my hair so I’ve never let it get to a point where I would know if I had any.

Bea Arthur  showing us how to go grey gracefully

I don’t know how the little rogue escaped but there it was this morning, mockingly sticking up with my usual flyaways. I ran to my loving husband (a little bit of a silver fox himself) and showed him the offending folicle and he just laughed and told me it didn’t really matter… he’s good like that.

Jamie Lee Curtis is silver and sexy

It has got me thinking about growing older and whether or not I’ve done very much with my life. It’s good to have a reason to take stock and really think about your achievements and what you’d still like to do with your time.

The beautiful Judi Dench

And the outcome to all this pondering? I’m doing pretty good :) I’ve travelled a little and lived overseas, I married the man I love, I have a house and two rascally puppies and I started my own business… life’s pretty sweet. There’s still heaps more to come and I’ve got a list of pretty huge goals to achieve so bring on the grey hairs – they’re how you know I’ve got stuff done.

Meryl Streep is still stunning with her grey locks
